🇸🇪Sweden
Sweden is a concentrated market with two dominant incumbents — Fortnox (600,000+ SMBs) and Visma — that together handle most of the country's SMB accounting workloads. The Swedish market has distinct structural requirements that global agentic tools rarely satisfy out of the box: the BAS chart of accounts, the SIE file format for auditor handoff, moms (Swedish VAT) at 25% with reduced rates, Skatteverket's digital filing requirements, and — new as of 1 April 2026 — Skatteverket's statutory authority to inspect digital bookkeeping directly in live cloud systems rather than only via exported files. That last point is a quiet but material shift in what "agentic" means in Sweden: agents have to operate in systems that can be audited live. Agentic tools that succeed here tend to be either native Swedish players or AI layers (like Zimply) that sit on top of Fortnox / Visma.
Sweden is an unusually concentrated market — Fortnox alone serves more than half the country's SMBs — and that concentration has shaped what "agentic" means locally. Until recently most Swedish agentic work happened in the AI layer above the incumbents, where companies like Zimply automate categorization and reconciliation against BAS. A newer entrant — Accounted (accounted.se), the open-source ledger by Arcim Technology AB, previously named gnubok — has nudged ahead this quarter by combining native double-entry workflows with a staged-write model designed for agent-driven editing. The lead over Zimply and Fortnox is narrow and could close in either direction next quarter. Bokio and Lundify remain the ambitious upstarts trying to ship native agentic features inside a conventional UI. The international players (Xero, NetSuite, Dynamics 365 BC) have limited local fit — they run in Sweden but don't handle SIE export, BAS mapping, or Skatteverket filings gracefully. The two 2026 regulatory points worth tracking: Skatteverket's new live / cloud audit access (1 April 2026) raises the bar on explainability and audit-trail quality for any agent operating on Swedish books — a bar Accounted is purpose-built around — and the Ministry of Finance commissioner's work on ViDA implementation (reporting November 2027) will determine whether a domestic B2B e-invoicing mandate lands before the 2030 cross-border ViDA deadline.
