Basis is the most heavily-capitalized pure-play agentic-accounting vendor the index does not yet cover on the buyer-facing leaderboard, and arguably the one US firm-side entrant that should be read first. The February 2026 $100M Series B led by Accel — with GV and Khosla alongside — took total raised to $138M at a $1.15B valuation, making Basis the first firm-side agentic platform to cross unicorn status. Company disclosures put Basis inside roughly 30% of the US Top 25 accounting firms.
Functionally, Basis deploys AI "preparer" agents that operate inside a firm's existing client workflow — ingesting engagement documents, drafting work-product, routing exceptions to a human reviewer — rather than replacing the firm's book-of-record tooling. That positions it against Karbon and Canopy at the practice-management layer, and against Fieldguide in audit-adjacent workflows, rather than against the buyer-side agentic ledgers (Puzzle, Digits, Rillet). Initial signal numbers here are editorial-assigned from public funding, named-customer, and press-volume anchors; measured autonomy and accuracy numbers will require an independent eval.
